Free antivirus: Better or Worse?

Free Antivirus Software:
Can my system be protected well with free software?
I have found that most proprietary antivirus software actually reduces overall speed and stability of one's PC. I am also appalled at the price people pay for such poor software. Why pay so much for Norton Antivirus when it slows your computer down more than the viruses it attempts to remove?

Free World of Warcraft?
Some of you may already be one of the 8 million plus players who pay for the PC and Mac game. But, did you know you can play it . . . for free? The method I propose isn't flawless, but it isn't hard at all.
How can I play for free? It's easy, just play on a Private server. Some people view this as voodoo, but I find that in today's economy, it can be a nice retreat from the real world.
Where can I find a private server? You can look through top lists of servers such as XtremeTop100 and GameSites200. You could also play on a server that I operate in my free time: UntoldWoW.com
Okay, what's the catch? The catch is that these servers are not perfect and many are not populated. Some may crash often and may not even have everything working, even though the technology is expanding rapidly. Some advantages to playing on a private server are the workings of brilliant people's imaginations. People make their server's so custom and so unique that the experience is of its own kind. You usually gain levels faster, and obtain items and money faster than the retail version.
I'm still not convinced; why should I switch to a private server? Most players don't actually switch, they just play both. In this way they can gain the advantages of casual game play and custom content, as well as the wonderfully built and run retail realms.
